The village of Aldie grew up along the Little River Turnpike, today’s Route 50, around Aldie Mill. NOVA Parks says the merchant mill was built between 1807 and 1809 and was once the largest gristmill in Loudoun County. The Aldie Mill Historic District was listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, and Loudoun County administers its own Aldie Historic District, where most exterior changes need county review. - Rural Historic Village: the county’s 2019 General Plan names Aldie as one of its 12 Rural Historic Villages, and the county’s Aldie Historic District requires review of most exterior changes.
- Zoning: rural parcels may be in the county’s Agricultural Rural districts (AR-1 or AR-2), while the planned communities have their own zoning. Confirm any parcel in the parcel database and search LandMARC for nearby applications.
