Free Ways to Stay Active in Reston

Trails and pathways

Reston was planned around walking. Reston Association’s network of more than 55 miles of trails connects neighborhoods, village centers and the lakes, and maps are available online and at the Walker Nature Center. The regional W&OD Trail also crosses Reston, which makes longer runs and rides easy.

Nature walks

The Walker Nature Center offers trails through woods and wetlands, and many of its programs are free or low cost.

Free activity days

Reston Association runs community events with free or reduced-price activities. In June 2026, its Play All Day event included free boat rentals, a water aerobics class and guest passes for tennis and pickleball players.

Courts and pools

Reston Association members have access to tennis and pickleball courts and 15 pools. These are not free to the public, but they are part of what RA dues cover. See our Reston pools and swim teams guide and Reston Association fees and rules.

Fairfax County parks

Lake Fairfax Park and Baron Cameron Park, both run by the Fairfax County Park Authority, add fields, trails and open space close to Reston.

Facts checked October 2026 against Reston Association and Fairfax County Park Authority information. Programs and hours change, so confirm before you go.
