80th Vienna Halloween Parade: Wednesday, October 28, 2026

The Town of Vienna has held a Halloween parade since 1946. It now runs rain or shine on the Wednesday before Halloween, with floats, bands and costumed marchers along Maple Avenue from Branch Road to Center Street. The 2026 theme is “Haunted History: 250 Years of America.” The route is about half a mile, and the parade lasts about an hour and a half.

  • Kids can march: children and others in costume can join without registering. Families who want to march meet at 6 p.m. at United Bank, 374 Maple Ave E.
  • Goodie bags: free bags for kids from 7:15 p.m. at the Caffi Field pitching lanes on Cherry Street SE, between the Vienna Community Center and the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department.
  • Where to watch: anywhere along Maple Avenue between Branch Road and Center Street. Temporary metal fencing lines both sides of the route to create a larger viewing area closer to the parade. Chairs and spectators are not allowed in the street at any time.
  • Accessible parking: marked spaces on Church Street from Dominion Road to Park Street, in front of the Freeman Store and Vienna Presbyterian Church, for vehicles with accessible tags or plates.
  • Parking and getting there: several public lots sit next to closed streets, so arrive early or walk or bike in. The Town Green/W&OD Trail lot between Church Street NE and Maple Avenue E is open to the public anytime; see the Town’s public parking page. The W&OD Trail is an easy car-free way in.

Saturday Farmers Market

The Vienna Farmers Market is run by the Optimist Club of Greater Vienna on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon in the Vienna Community Center lot, 120 Cherry St SE, from the first Saturday in May through the last Saturday in October.

It is a producer-only market (not a crafts market), the Optimists arrange live music each week, and state health rules keep dogs other than service dogs out of the market. The last market of 2026 is Saturday, October 31.

A Saturday route: shop the market, walk to the W&OD Trail and follow it past the red caboose and the old depot to the Town Green, then finish with lunch on Church Street.

Summer Fridays: Summer on the Green and Chillin’ on Church

Summer on the Green brings free 90-minute concerts to the Town Green at 6:30 p.m. on select Fridays from June through mid-August; bring a chair or blanket, and leave pets and alcohol at home.

Weather calls are usually made between 4 and 5 p.m. on the Town’s weather line, 703-255-7842. Chillin’ on Church is a monthly Friday block party from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. with food trucks, live music and beer and wine (ID wristband required), with sections of Church and Mill streets closed. Both 2026 seasons have ended; 2027 dates are to be announced.

Fall and Holiday Traditions

  • Vienna Oktoberfest (Saturday, October 3, 2026, past): the Vienna Business Association’s free festival around Church, Dominion and Mill streets and the Town Green, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in 2026. It is held on the first Saturday in October.
  • Church Street Holiday Stroll (Monday, November 30, 2026, 6 to 8 p.m.): Santa, live holiday music, a tree lighting, firepits and s’mores, with historic sites open, including the Freeman Store and Museum, the caboose and the train station.

Buyer Note: Living Near the Action

Homes near Maple Avenue, Church Street, the Town Green and Yeonas Park are close to the fun and close to the closures. Parade day closes Maple Avenue and nearby side streets for the evening, Chillin’ on Church and Oktoberfest close parts of Church and Mill streets, and Independence Day closes sections of Ross Drive and nearby streets from 7 to 11 p.m., with resident access from Cottage Street.

If you are touring a home nearby, come back during an event to see the crowds and parking for yourself. Not sure the home is in the town? See Town of Vienna vs. a Vienna address.
