By car, most trips start on the Fairfax County Parkway, which VDOT is widening through mid-2027, or on Braddock Road toward I-495.

VRE does not run on weekends or on federal holidays such as Veterans Day and Thanksgiving, and it runs a reduced “S” schedule on some other days. Oct. 19 to 23, 2026: VRE is running a modified schedule because Amtrak work will temporarily cut off access to Union Station.
