The October 17 weekend

Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, which gives families a long runway. The first weekend of events kicks off a full two weeks before the holiday.

On Saturday, October 17, the Halloween Family Fun Day runs from noon to 2 p.m. at Reston Community Center Hunters Woods on Colts Neck Road. Registration is required, according to a Halloween roundup published by TysonsToday. The same day, the Howl-o-ween Dog Festival is listed from 1 to 4 p.m. at Brown’s Chapel Recreation Area. If your costume plans include the four-legged family member, this is your spot.

By the numbers: 6 Reston events appear on TysonsToday’s 2026 Halloween list, running from October 17 through November 1.

The October 23 and 24 weekend

This is the busiest stretch for anything spooky. At the Walker Nature Center on Glade Drive, the Halloween House and Trick-or-Treat Trail is listed starting at 5:45 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are listed at $15 for Reston Association members and $20 for non-members. Reston Association asks you to register everyone in your party by Wednesday, October 21, and there are no walk-ins. A trail in the dark is a very different thing from a sidewalk, and kids tend to remember it.

Just outside Reston, Halloween on the Farm at Frying Pan Park in Herndon is listed for the same two evenings at $12 per person. The Fairfax County Park Authority listing says the program runs in one-hour time slots, with sessions starting at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. on Friday and 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. In Oakton, Haunted Mini Golf at Oakmont Golf Center is also listed for both nights. If you are thinking about Oakton as a place to live, our Oakton real estate page is a good place to start.

Sunday, October 25 at Town Center

Reston Town Center’s own calendar lists Trick or Treat Beyond Market Street for Sunday, October 25, from noon to 3 p.m. Last year’s version, held October 26, 2025, was described by the event listing as a chance to visit participating retailers and restaurants for treats, prizes and giveaways while supplies last. Expect something similar, but check the Town Center calendar for current details before you go.

It is a daytime event, which makes it easy for little ones who are done by dinner. Parking at Town Center can fill up on busy days, so many families walk or bike in from nearby neighborhoods. If you are curious what living within walking distance looks like, our Reston real estate page covers the areas around it.

Halloween week and the big night

YMCA Reston’s Trunk or Treat is listed for Friday, October 30, from 4 to 6 p.m. at 12196 Sunset Hills Road, and the listing says it is free. That is an easy one for families who want treats without a long walk.

On Halloween itself, Saturday, October 31, the Reston-area events thin out because most families head to their own streets. A little further out, the Mosaic District, Great Falls Village Centre and Fair Oaks Mall all have events listed that day, per TysonsToday.

And for something only Reston could offer, there is the SUP Witches! Lake Anne Halloween Coven Paddle on Sunday, November 1, starting at 1 p.m. Costumes on paddleboards at Lake Anne. It does exactly what it says. For what is happening the rest of the year, see our Reston events calendar.

Good to know: October 31, 2026 falls on a Saturday, so most evening events and neighborhood trick-or-treating share one night.

A quick note on trick-or-treating in your own neighborhood

There is no official schedule for door-to-door trick-or-treating in most Reston and Northern Virginia neighborhoods. It is informal. Typically it runs from about dusk until the porch lights go off, and a lit porch light is the usual signal that a house is welcoming visitors. Townhome and condo communities with sidewalks and short walks between doors tend to draw the biggest crowds, which is one reason families sometimes mention walkability when they are choosing where to live. If your community has an HOA or a Reston Association cluster, check its newsletter or social page for any posted guidance.
