Grocery Store Wine
The grocery store is a convenient place to purchase bottles of wine and all of Reston’s grocery stores have ample choices. Worthy of note are the North Point Village Giant, which has tastings weekly, and Trader Joe’s, known for their selection of cheap, private label wines. For a more elaborate wine-tasting experience, visit Balducci’s, where you can also enjoy wines by the glass in store!
Wine Stores
The Wine Cabinet is a charming, well-stocked specialty wine store located in North Point Village. Customers can expand their knowledge at free wine and beer tastings on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons. You can also sample special bottles of wine at the store’s Open Bottle events on Thursday evenings from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Try these fine wines, typically rated 90 points or higher, are receive discounts up to 40% on the featured bottle each week.
The wine superstore Total Wine & More has the feel of an upscale wine store with discounted prices. Along with their vast selection of wines, you’ll find wine accessories, beer, a growler station, and a cigar humidor. A beautifully appointed “classroom” serves as the meeting place for their popular and well-attended wine classes, held several times per month.
Restaurants
The Tasting Room Wine Bar & Shop in Reston Town Center features imported and domestic wines, available by the glass or bottle, including wines from its owner Boxwood Estate Winery in Middleburg, VA. If you’re interesting in sampling several different wines, get an ENO card ($10 minimum) and enjoy the self-serve Enomatic Wine Tasting Bar, featuring 28 wines available in 1, 3, or 5-ounce pours. A variety of snacks, charcuteries, and sandwiches are available for noshing, along with outdoor seating.
Also in Reston Town Center is Barcelona Wine Bar, a delicious tapas restaurant that features an array of wines from Spain and South America. Their ever-expanding menu of 40 wines by the glass and lovely outdoor seating make this a must-stop for small plates and good wine.
Don’t overlook the Lake Anne Coffee House and Wine Bar at the Lake Anne Village Center, thinking it’s mostly a coffee shop. With a regularly changing wine list, you’ll have to keep coming back to keep up. Repeat visits will give you a chance to eat your way through the unique and varied menu. Beer and specialty cocktails are also available in a cozy, low-key atmosphere that’s a little less hectic than the Town Center.
The Vinifera Wine Bar & Bistro is an upscale, sleek little spot located inside the Westin Reston Heights. Far from the average hotel restaurant, the award-winning Vinifera offers 350 different wines and gourmet cuisine.
Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant has an extensive selection of wines, many of which are award winners. Their menu includes a diverse array of appetizers and entrees, each with a recommended wine pairing identified by bin number, to make ordering the perfect wine to go with your meal a snap!
