Most narrowly defined, Northern Virginia consists of the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, and Stafford as well as the independent cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Fredericksburg, Manassas, and Manassas Park. As of April 2020 there were 3,197,076 people in Northern Virginia; approximately 37 percent of the state’s population.
