If you have ever dreamed of living on the water, you definitely need to check out Reston’s lakeside communities!
Reston boasts four lakes – Lake Audubon, Lake Thoreau, Lake Anne, and Lake Newport – and each offers a variety of lakefront properties including condominiums, townhomes, and luxurious single-family homes.
While you cannot go swimming in the lakes of Reston, fishing, boating, wildlife watching and lakeside picnicking are available to Reston Association members.

Lake Audubon
Located in South Reston near South Lakes Village Center, Lake Audubon is communities include condominiums at Nantucket and Dockside, townhomes at Brenton Cove, Mallards Landing, Cabots Point, South Bay, Cedar Cove, Beacon Heights, Audubon Court, and Audubon Terrace Clusters. Patio homes and single-family homes are also located on the lake. Paved and unpaved walking paths are located at and around the lake, as well as the Lake Audubon Pool, which overlooks the lake and boat ramp.
Lake Thoreau
Close to Lake Audubon is Lake Thoreau, also in the South Reston area. Lake Thoreau features condominiums at Harbor Point, townhomes in Lakewinds, Walden, Chadds Ford, Westcove, Harbor Point, and Winterport clusters, patio homes at Harborside as well as single-family homes.
Walking paths and trails are located near and around Lake Thoreau, and fishing aficionados will enjoy the lake, stocked with a variety of fish including sunfish, bullhead, largemouth bass, panfish, and catfish.
During the holidays, enjoy the Lake Thoreau Festival of Winter Lights, where residents decorate the lake-facing side of their home, condo, or boat to raise money for local causes including Cornerstones and Public Art Reston.
Lake Anne
Lake Anne sits at the center of the vibrant Lake Anne Plaza, which features a variety of restaurants, local shops, and boat rentals. There is a seasonal Farmer’s Market, as well as concerts, and festivals held at the Plaza throughout the year. Condominiums are located at Washington and Lake Anne Plaza, Heron House, and Lakeview, townhomes at Chimney House, Inlet Court, Lakeside, Waterview and Washington Plaza, and single-family homes on the North and South sides of the lake.
Lake Newport
Lake Newport, located in North Reston, has some of the most lavish neighborhoods in Reston. There are townhomes and patio homes at Hemmingway, with large, high-end single-family homes in the Newport, Greenwich Point, BelCastle, and Newport Cove neighborhoods.
Along a walking trail around the lake, you will find amenities including a playground, tennis court, and basketball court, docks, and water access. Residents can enjoy fishing, boating, and Stand up Paddle boarding on the lake, as well as beautiful seasonal views.
Lake Newport is also home to the Lake House, a rental facility for weddings, corporate and special events, overlooking Lake Newport.
