If you own a home in Reston and have school aged children, they will have the advantage of being able to attend Fairfax County Public Schools.  Reston has a whopping eight Elementary schools, along with Hughes Middle School and South Lakes High School. To help your kids have a great start to the 2018-2019 school year, here are some Reston resources to check out.

School Supplies

If you didn’t get your back-to-school shopping done before the first bell rang, not to worry. Though stores may be more crowded the first week of school, you can still stock up on things like notebooks, paper, pencils, and crayons at the Reston’s Target, Office Depot, Michael’s ,and three CVS stores. A more limited selection of supplies can be had at local Reston grocery stores, including Giant and Safeway. For computers and software,  Best Buy is your best bet, along with the  Apple Store in Reston Town Center.

Mark Your Calendar

It’s always good to know ahead of time when your child’s school is closed for early dismissal, holidays, and teacher workdays.  Get those dates on your calendar with the help of Fairfax County Public School’s  calendar. You can also check the calendar on your individual schools website to plan for school specific events like Back to School night. 

Get Ready to Do Lunch

To pack or buy, that is the question. To answer that question, it’s helpful to have quick access to the weekly school  lunch menu. Also be sure to stock up your child’s  lunch account  to make buying school lunch a breeze.

Extracurricular

Get your child involved in one of Reston’s many sports leagues to increase self-confidence and give them the experience of being part of a team. Reston has a league for all the major sports including Football and Flag FootballBaseball,  Basketball,  Lacrosse, and  Ice Hockey.

If sports aren’t your child’s thing, other options include skating lessons at  SkateQuest Reston, and dance classes at  Ravel and the  Greater Washington Dance Center.
