Free Fitness In Reston

The best way to commit and stick to an exercise program is to find something you enjoy.  There are so many gyms, fitness programs, and exercise classes in Reston it can be hard to decide which one is right for you. If you aren’t ready to commit to a full-blown gym membership or want to explore different kinds of exercise, check out these fitness freebies available around Reston. You’ll experience the camaraderie and energy of exercising with like-minded people at classes including yoga, conditioning, running, Pilates, and Zumba. 

Group Exercise Classes

For a quality yoga experience, try Free Yoga on the Plaza at Reston Station, offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  These mixed level classes are led by Beloved Yoga, which has been operating in Reston for more than a decade. Bring your own yoga mat and plan to arrive a few minutes early to sign a waiver and claim your spot on the Plaza.

Beloved Yoga also offers a free Karma Flow class, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at their studio at 11109 Sunset Hills Rd., across from the Reston Post Office.  A rotating roster of teachers, including some teacher trainees, lead this slower moving, mixed level class, great for people interested in discovering the benefits of yoga. You can also catch free yoga classes on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Lake Anne Plaza at the Lake Anne Village Center.

Athleta in the Pavilionis a Sunday exercise series held at the Reston Town Center Pavilion. Classes offered weekly include Pilates, Zumba, and yoga. For class times, check Athleta’s calendar and sign up by calling 703-668-0256.

Muscle Up Mondays Powered by CRUNCH Fitness is a conditioning class that is held Mondays from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the Reston Town Center Pavilion. The class is ongoing through October 29, with no class Labor Day Monday.  This is a great overall workout designed to improve your strength, cardio, balance, core and more.

Running and Biking

If group exercise isn’t your thing, consider taking part in Potomac River Running’sweekly Reston Fun Runs on Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Beginners and expert runners alike are welcome for a 50-minute round trip run that leaves the store in Reston Town Center and picks up the nearby Washington & Old Dominion Trail. Runners are encouraged to participate at the pace and distance best for them. Walkers are welcome too.

Speaking of the W&OD Trail, independent runners, walkers and bikers can pick up the trail in several locations around Reston.  The 45-mile, paved W&OD Trail offers a great way to get a no-cost, outdoor workout in a natural setting.  The trail begins in Shirlington and ends in Purcellville, making it ideal for short treks and longer rides alike. The trail enters Reston at mile 15 at Hunter Mill Rd. If you need to park and ride, parking is available at Reston Town Center and at a small lot located on Old Reston Ave.
